My Little Persimmon Tree

I love the delicate, almost spiced flavor of the Persimmon fruit. For ages, I found the shape off putting. It looks like a hard, orange tomato. When I first tasted it, it was a bit of a shock to find it sweet and delicate in taste; nothing like a tomato, I'm happy to report!

Now, I look forward to Persimmon Season. I love the small, gnarly trees that these fruits grow on. As the season goes on, the leaves fall, and the Persimmons become ripe. It's such a contrast to see the little, bare trees heavy-laden with all these bright orange fruits. I've seen many paintings of Persimmon trees in traditional Japanese and Chinese art. It's a delight to be around so many orchards this time of year.

Not far from my local grocery store, there is a lovely, little orchard. I google translated into Japanese if I could stroll around the orchard and take some photos. Be my guest, the older Japanese man ushered, with a smile.

I cannot wait to use some of these as references for some future paintings! I'll keep you posted.

And I was thinking how very different my photos are. I have photos that I use to be displayed and sold as photos. (Sounds obvious) And then I have very (seemingly) uninteresting photos which I use as references for painting. Here's an example of what I mean. Odd, no?

Many Autumn blessings for now,

Evelyn
