If you've been following the progress of my series: Manhole Covers of Japan, let me welcome you to the seventh of the collection! The design is from the Izu Peninsula of Japan. It features a young man and a girl in kimonos with flowers surrounding them. It's probably one of the prettiest covers I've come across.

We had spent a lovely long weekend at Shimoda beach and were heading home. We pulled over so I could take some photos of the rice fields when I saw this delightful design.
There's a lot going on in this design. I wanted each area to stand out. Different kimono and Yukata patterns worn by men and women I've photographed around Japan make up the colorful background to the black circle silhouette.
