Peace Of Boats
oil on canvas
9 x 13
This was studied from a couple of photographs I took during a trip to Ireland. I was visiting Ross Castle. Everything was incredibly lush and green. And very peaceful. I wanted that sense conveyed within the painting. This river scene was just before the castle and the lake. I added the gentleman for artistic license.
I watched him dock his boat after being out on the lake. He sat with his newspaper and his cigarette and enjoyed his alone time.

I particularly loved his scowl as he glanced up to no one. Perhaps his grimace was due to the glare of the sun in his eyes, or perhaps it's merely his regular weather-worn face, either way I had to paint him.
Please enjoy,
Evelyn
