Cowgirls & Tincture

Some things catch your eye. Others make you wonder about the life they've lived.
My fascination with dusty, speckled glass bottles began in Jerome, Arizona, a place where the past seems to linger in every corner. Since then, I've found myself drawn to these little treasures in antique shops and curioso and oddity shops — bottles that look as though they've been waiting patiently for someone to notice them.
These three caught my eye on a shelf in an antique shop in Helotes, Texas.
I was captivated by their differences: the trio of shapes and colors, the dusty glass, and the way time had transformed them. Especially the tincture bottle, with its beautiful aged greens and golden browns. Its faded label and nearly illegible writing seemed to hold a secret just beyond my reach.
What was once inside? Who reached for it? Was it tucked away in a medicine cabinet, carried on a journey, or left behind when its owner moved on to something new?
I'll never know. And perhaps that's what I love most.
When I paint objects like these, I'm not just trying to capture the glass or the light. I'm trying to preserve that feeling of discovery — the moment when an ordinary object becomes a doorway into an imagined past.
Cowgirls and Tincture is my little tribute to the beauty of well-worn things, the places where we stumble upon them, and the stories that remain even when the details have faded.
