Misty Morning on the way to Basel
Original Watercolor
$250.00
I remember the soft morning light over the tiny villages along the German-French border. The air was cold, the landscape still wrapped in mist, and everything seemed suspended in that quiet moment between night and day.
Above the rooftops, a church tower rose into the warming sky, standing ready to greet the morning before the rest of the village had stirred. The sun hadn't quite appeared, but its light was already changing everything it touched. Warm peach and golden tones filled the sky, while the earth below remained cool, shadowed, and still.
I was looking at this little village through my car window, where condensation had formed soft, blurred circles on the glass. Those circles became a kind of natural frame, separating me from the village while drawing me into its quiet beauty. The world beyond the window seemed distant, dreamlike, and wonderfully still.
I wanted to hold on to that feeling.
Not just the colors of the sky or the shape of the church tower, but the feeling of being somewhere unfamiliar and yet completely at peace. Of traveling without needing to rush. Of watching a new day arrive, one soft brushstroke of light at a time.
This is my attempt to preserve that fleeting moment—the hush before the day begins, the warmth of a new morning, and the quiet beauty of places we pass through but never quite forget.
Perhaps that is what travel gives us, beyond the photographs and the places we visit: little moments that stay with us long after we've gone home.
